Pause civilisation : the best and worst inaugural addresses, Lincoln, JFK...

1 Le contexte
Il était difficile cette semaine d'échapper à des images sur la deuxième cérémonie d'investiture d'Obama. Le protocole est bien huilé, les symboles nombreux... il s'agit de présenter au monde entier une image soignée de la première puissance mondiale.
Outre les différentes étapes de cette cérémonie, une étape essentielle est le très attendu discours inaugural.
Comme pour une finale de compétition sportive, les attentes sont souvent déçues ; toutefois plusieurs discours demeurent dans la mémoire collective du peuple américain, pour leur puissance poétique (Lincoln, Quincy Adams), le contexte historique (Roosevelt, JFK...)...

En ces temps de crise économique mondiale, il me semblait intéressant de faire un parallèle avec les années 30 aux USA.

La photographe explique la genèse de cette photo devenue icône de la 'Great Depression".

"I saw and approached the hungry and desperate mother, as if drawn by a magnet. I do not remember how I explained my presence or my camera to her, but I do remember she asked me no questions. I made five exposures, working closer and closer from the same direction. I did not ask her name or her history. She told me her age, that she was thirty-two. She said that they had been living on frozen vegetables from the surrounding fields, and birds that the children killed. She had just sold the tires from her car to buy food.
