Pause actualité : photojournalism

1 Le contexte
Un numéro spécial de National Geographic vient de paraître. Il fait la part belle aux photos qui sont parues dans ce célèbre magazine depuis sa création. On peut revoir certaines photos célèbres et lire des articles de fond sur le 'photojournalisme' ; un vrai plaisir pour les yeux et pour l'esprit.
Je vous propose dans Let's make the most of it! un extrait de cours sur ce thème et quelques vidéos sur ce qu'est le photojournalisme et si vous voulez vous y mettre... quelques 'tips' pour faire de bonnes photos...

3 Let's make the most of it!


Un exemple de démarche :

1 Describing/ Analyzing / Caption

a) origin (name of the photographer, source -magazine/site / newspaper..., date...) = introduction

This is a (still) photograph by... It was published in/ first shown in...

b) characters, animals, objects, monuments, city, country etc = explicite, description (stocktaking)

The scene is/ is set in...

prépositions : in the foreground, in the background, in the top left hand corner, in the bottom right hand corner,
a close up, a long shot, a medium shot...
verbes décrivant des attitudes (hold/ throw/ cry/ shout...) ; des sentiments (he looks + adj, he seems + to vb + adj = angry, worried...)
champs lexicaux liés au thème (brainstorming autour de mots clefs)

c) movement of your eyes : which elements are enhanced, the photographer's intentions

d) social / historical context

f) Commentaire : après l'inventaire, l'histoire et émission d'hypothèses

manipulated photographs = photographs as weapons?
